Our tour begins with the medieval castle.
Around the year 1000, the first wooden fortress was built at the bottom of the valley, protected by the Nançon River and the surrounding marshes.
In the 12th century, the English destroyed this first structure. A new stone castle was then built in its place.
Over the next 400 years, its defenses were continuously strengthened. Today, the castle stands as a remarkable example of military architecture through the centuries.
It once protected the Marches of Brittany, the frontier region that separated the Kingdom of France from the independent Duchy of Brittany.
