Saint-Léonard Church is the second church built in Fougères.
Although construction began in the 12th century, most of the building you see today dates from the 15th and 16th centuries.
In the 1870s, the church was significantly enlarged. Three additional bays were added to the nave.
During these works, the choir, which originally faced east, was moved to the west. This made it possible to build the monumental neo-Gothic façade you see today.
The church also houses the oldest preserved stained-glass window in Brittany, a fragment brought here from the Abbey of Saint-Denis.
