Raoul and Surienne Towers

On your right stand the Raoul and Surienne Towers.

These two impressive horseshoe-shaped towers were built at the end of the 15th century.

They were designed to protect the fortress against cannons, a new type of weapon that appeared at the end of the Middle Ages.

Their walls are incredibly thick — up to 7 meters wide.
