Rue Nationale is one of the oldest streets in the city.
In the past, it was known as Rue du Bourg-Neuf and was lined with medieval houses featuring timber frames and covered porches.
After several major fires in the 18th century, the street was completely rebuilt following plans drawn up by architects sent by the King of France.
The granite buildings you see today have aligned façades and share the same design:
shops under the arcades and homes on the upper floors.
